Ah, I didn't realize the cost was doubled if you were currently carrying something. Makes sense. Sorry for the lack of awareness on my part.
Is there a way to "un-use" an item, or are your choices either dropping the item you have now to pickup the item you wish at a reduced cost (6 to drop, 15 to pickup) or picking up the item at 30AP if you wish to hang onto whatever you're holding onto?
BTW, the AP Chart shows the old costs for Priming and Throwing a grenade.
Re: un-using an item, I don't think there is really a point to having it. It would have to be 15 AP's to balance it out, so a unit might as well just either drop the item or just pickup a new item while carrying an existing one. Unless I'm missing something?

If I wanted to pick something up but still keep the weapon I currently have ready, it'd be a 51 AP action (6 to drop current item, 15 to pickup the 2nd item, then 30 to pickup the original item). That may be on purpose but if I'm low on ammo and I stumble across a clip or even a grenade or another weapon, it would be great to be able to pick that up without losing what I have currently.
Or if I suddenly realize the bloody aliens are much faster than I expected and wanted to use my adrenaline shot even though it isn't ready, it would be good to not have to drop what I'm using to get to the shot.
In your first example, you could just pick up the item and then change back to the original item, and it would only cost 45 APs. However, after thinking about it, that's still quite expensive and it's usually not worth the AP cost to pick up and use other weapons, which is a shame.
In the next version of the client I've reduced the cost of picking up items to 10 APs, so it will only cost 35 APs to pick up an item and then change back to the original.
