Years ago I was reading a copy of White Dwarf (back in the day when it covered RPG's) and it had a mission for the RPG "Paranoia". The mission was about all the players working together to accomplish some goal, but the catch was that one randomly-selected player was secretly working against the others and had to try and disrupt them and cause the mission to fail. (Actually, this being Paranoia, it turns out that *all* the players were told to work against each others!).
Unfortunately I never got to play this game, but ever since, I've been wanting to try something similar. And now that Stellar Forces exists I have the chance! There are probably lots of possibilities with this idea, but the first one I have come up with is something like 4-player Moonbase Assault: 3 players are the "defenders", and one randomly selected player is the attacker (but that side is not revealed to anyone else). The attacker must try and destroy the computers without being spotted shooting at them.
Another idea off the top of my head include Rescue from the Mines-style mission, but one side has to kill the hostages. Needless to say, no-one is told which side it is (apart from the player controlling them).
What do people think? Would it be any good?

That sounds like a fantastic idea Steve. I'd really look forward to seeing something like that. I think it might actually be more difficult that it first sounds to create a mission like that, but I would really look forward to seeing it work.
That's set off my own create spark. One of my favourite movies is John Carpenter's The Thing. Have you seen it? I wonder if it would be possible to create a mission where the Alien(s) can not only impregnate human, but also morph into their form. It could be a 4-player mission where the disguised Alien impregnator is randomly selected from the players, so no onw knows who the Alien is. Everyone needs to work together to prevent the Alien from sneaking up and impregnating them, but no one really knows who they can trust. Again it would be very difficult to create something like this, but I would love to see if we could.
For both Steve ans Deadlime... Dead: The thing is one of my favorite movies, i love some other John Carpenter's movies. Steve: I've played and mastered D&D, AD&D, Call of Cthulu's, Chivaly and Sorcery, MERP, GURP, War Hammer / 40k, SpaceTraveller, Shadowrun... and other's more that i dont remember now... My opinion on the initial idea is that maybe it results on more interesting missions. Personnaly i have one more idea of creating one mission that in each multiple of 3 turns one side is reenforced with new units in an random or marked spot. What do you think about it? May i start builiding a map and the goal for this type of mission?
Ha ha, I've dabbled in fair bit of Dungeon Mastery myself - read all of the Lovecraft novels, I'm reading some Warhammer 40k right now, and have a bit of knowledge of SpaceTraveller.
I don't know if it's well know, but myself and Monkey have been friends since childhood and I know he has many of the same interests too. So it might seem that many of us have a lot more in comman than we think. :)
It will take a bit of work to sort out some technical issues (such as disabling opportunity fire until you know who your enemy is) but nothing to difficult.
Your idea about The Thing (indeed, a classic film!) sounds brilliant as well, and shouldn't be any harder to implement. I can't wait to play these games!

Pedro, please feel free to contribute anything you can, it's all gratefully accepted. :) I am currently working on a map editor to make designing the maps a lot easier, so you might want to wait for that before starting on the map? I should have it done in a few days. Sounds like a very interesting idea though.

Steve you are full of surprises! I haven't played it yet but the videos look quite impressive. Is there any chance we can import some of those nice Terminator suits of armour into Stellar Forces? We might be able to create some kind of Cyber Hordes style mission using those.
NO WAY Looool... How come you have time to do so many things... building an map editor (i was thinking and started making one (far from it ;))... remember?) and you're even making or stop making other game. Sometimes i dont have time even to go to the bathroom when nature calls... looool Keep up with the good works. Starting building new mission with new rules. The Plague...
Technically it would be very easy to use them. However, apparently Games Workshop are quite litigious (they seem to have put the brakes on loads of home-brew games), and I'd hate for SF to grind to a halt because of something like that.

I also fight crime during the night as well! ;) Well I've been clogging up the internet for decades now with loads of games. I wrote Xenogeddon a couple of years ago. SF is by far my most accomplished effort though, probably because I've been at it for so long. I usually lose interest after a couple of months of a project, but having good feedback (and really enjoying playing the game) has kept my interest for almost a year now, and shows no sign of stopping!

Good point. I've heard this before about Games Workshop. It's a shame, but agree it's not worth the risk.

With the "success" (so far) of the first SNAFU mission, I've continued the discussion about The Thing on the new forums: http://forums.stellarforces.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18 as it sounds like the next best idea to implement.
